Informatics student Mayowa Aina (’17) talks about her experience as a UW student in this story featured on the university’s website. Aina, who has taken part in the Husky Marching Band and the Black Student Union, says she has benefited greatly from small scholarships. She also got a mention in UW President Ana Mari Cauce’s annual address earlier this week.

The UW launched its $5 billion philanthropic campaign this week, and the iSchool is playing its part. The school is already well on its way to its $35 million goal. Read more about the iSchool’s role in the campaign here.

Professor Batya Friedman’s work on value-sensitive design was highlighted in Nature, in an article by iSchool Adjunct Professor Ryan Calo and Microsoft researcher Kate Crawford, on a “blind spot in AI research.”

Lecturer Annie Searle’s latest for The Risk Universe asks when financial institutions are going to face any real consequences for actions such as the shenanigans discovered at Wells Fargo.
